To be fair, they did force me to watch the stupid thing after I had decided to pass. I tried to walk out after 10 minutes, then they made me watch the entire thing in silence (I guess I let them make me, if you want to really carry the whole "personal responsibility" thing to its logical conclusion.)
I then got up and walked out, in silence. Then they asked me what I thought about it, and tried to convince me I was wrong. Then they stopped talking about it and tried to get me to, as well.

Huge fan of TOS, TNG, DS9... and I really liked the new Star Trek. The original universe had been going for 50 years, while it was still pretty awesome, it was 50 years old and had gotten to the point of being completely stale and forgotten. Abrams came in and gave it a new coat of paint, separated it from the old universe, and made a whole bunch of new people excited about Star Trek again... I went into the 2009 movie with the mindset I would go into Inception with, it was something "new" and there was a deliberation to simply separate myself from everything I knew about Star Trek to that point, and enjoy the movie for what it was, and I ended up enjoying the shite out of it.
