Anyone see that highlight? It looked pretty intentional to me. Skate right to the achilles. Ouch.

I read he won't be punished. Surprising to me.

Bettman said, "Frick you Goodell."

Personally I didn't think he had any intention of doing that. There's no way he could have while trying to keep his balance and battle like he was. Just really unfortunate. If it was anyone else in the league intentions wouldn't be questioned

Cooke is fricked
NHL already said no punishment, was an accident.
ESPN's Pierre Lebrun said he talked to a lot of team GM's who said the same thing, accident, no intention.
Non Pens fans just love to bitch about the Pens any way they can, too bad!

I figured, was speaking in general.
The Cooke is fricked response was the first part, already said no punishment earlier today.
SI had a great article on how unfair it is that Cooke is taking heat over this just because of his past.
Just a simple hockey play that happens 50 times per game and it went wrong, nothing more.
Can tell a lot of people on here don't know much about hockey or have never played it.

"This is simply a hockey play with an unfortunate result," said Ward. "This is a hit and pin. This in an attempt to contain a player... There is no way, unequivocally, a player can sit out there and devise in his mind in that moment, 'This is the time I'm going to slide my foot down and take out the back of his leg.'"

I watched again. I can see what you're getting at. I don't watch enough hockey to know Cooke had a reputation.

But the fact is that this lifting of the leg is a routine maneuver that checkers perform when they are intent on pinning an opponent to the boards, and it occurs perhaps dozens of times in an NHL game. The idea is for the checker to wedge his leg between the opponent's legs to prevent him from moving. It's so common that on the TSN telecast of the Dallas-Calgary game that aired after Senators-Penguins, former NHL defenseman-turned-analyst Aaron Ward was able to show that a pair of maneuvers just like it had happened during the first two minutes of the second contest.

Agree with all of this. I can feel my body tense up when I watch it and know that there is no way someone can intentionally do that. He was just trying to stay on his feet

That's the only reason this is getting so much attention really
