5 Current Players That Will Fit Into The New Defensive Scheme

1) B. Bunkley-Nose Guard- typical size for a 3-4 nose guard and has experience from his denver playing days and anyone with experience can help this transition.
2) A. Hicks- Strongside End- he has the size and athleticism to play the 5 tech in the 3-4. the hope is that he turns into the next Haloti Ngata. yes i know Ngata is one of kind but Hicks kinda reminds me of him.
3) C. Jordan- Weakside End- Cam played the 5 tech in college so the transition shouldn't be too strenuous for him.
4) M. Wilson- Weakside Outside Linebacker- His only professional highlights have come when he rushes the passer and he was moved to end last season. With his size and speed he could turn into a formidable pass rusher.
5)R. Harper- Strong Safety- Harper has been dreadful in coverage but in the Ryan system, the SS plays really close to the LOS to help in run support and is often used on blitzes. Basically this system plays to all his strengths.
i know, CSB.

I wouldn't say that, but Ryan did use an undersized Ratliff in Dallas.

I could see Junior Galette do really well also

i just looked it up and he is listed at 6'2 306. for some reason i thought he was closer to the 330 range.
you say he used an undersized tackle in dallas, was it successful at all? (i hate dallas and dont pay them much attention)

Yes. Ratliff was only like 287 but he was disruptive. That's another thing: running a 1 gap system requires your linemen to get penetration and not just occupy blockers, which suits Jordan and Hicks, but not necessarily Bunkly.

i think gallette could possibly be a very good rush LBer but i dont think he has ever played standing up and i think thats a harder transition than some realize. this is the main reason i picked Martez as a better fit because he has played LBer before so the transition won't be as difficult. i hope he proves me wrong and becomes a superstar.

I think Hawthorne will do well as a ILB also.

He's not even in the bottom 5 guys on our Defense.

But his contract sucks butt hole

I agree he's not the bottom five, but either we cut him or he takes a paycut

Not sure how much playing time he will see, but i really like what I saw from Tom Johnson last year to get behind Hicks in the rotation?

I'm curious as how him and Tyrunn Walker will fit in. If Johnson isn't cut out for 3-4 end he might be worth something in a trade with a team needing a 3-tech.

Johnson has the build to play DE.

How about IAQ he played really well.

I definitely think he is capable of DE in this new D.. From what I saw, he was able to get decent penetration and play the run very well in limited snaps at DT in the 4-3. He is a large body with an ideal build capable of solid penetration. I personally would like to see him stick around for a while and continue to develop and get worked into a young rotation

Just did some brief research on Johnson...
6'3" 288 lbs.
28 years old
2 years NFL experience (spent some time in Canada and AFL)
Recorded 28 total tackles (18 solo) and 2 sacks in 2012 as a reserve
Set to make $750,000 in 2013 (final year of contract) then will be come a restricted free agent in 2014

Agree. He will fill the Vaughn Johnson role.
