I get the love Duane Allman but what about Dickie?

Probably one of the most under rated guitarists ever.
Understandable given who he would inevitably compared too?
Really deserves a lot of props for keeping ABB going?

Dickie didnt keep ABB. if anyone single person is responsible for that its Gregg.
But Dickie was a great guitarist no doubt but when you're compared to the likes of Duane Allman, Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks, well you just dont stand out as much.
He will live forever in my mind, if for nothing else, for writing in memory of Elizabeth reed

Overshadowed is a better word

After doing some digging, I discovered that I really was not an ABB fan. I was/am a Dickey Betts fan. I was very surprised.

What I love about the story (other than the fact that they're a big part of the character basis for "Stillwater" in Almost Famous), is that after Duane died, Dickie had to learn how to play slide to do all of Duane's parts and basically taught himself the technique while practicing over a long night of traveling.
He just turned 70 in December (and looks every bit of it).
Trivia: Betts later wrote (and sang lead on) the ABB's biggest hit - "Ramblin' Man" - a song kept out of the #1 spot by Greg's future wife, Cher's "Half Breed".
