The Thing (1982)
The Thing (2010) - This is actually a prequel to the 1982 version.
...and if you are feeling pretty squirrely, you an always try and find The Thing From Outer Space. It's the original and is in black and white. I love black horror movies and The Thing From Outer Space is a classic.
Invasion of the Body Snatchers is a classic and still holds up today. Make sure you get the original and not the remake. The remake is horrible.
ETA: If you have never seen Poltergeist then I suggest watching that one. Still a top 10 scary movie.

Nice. So disappointed in the remake.
In keeping theme with the throwbacks:
War of the Worlds (I enjoyed the remake too)
The Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
Them
This Island Earth

quote:A lot of good suggestions have been offered already:
science fiction movie thursday
Invasion of the Body Snatchers (original)
Day the Earth Stood Still (original)
Alien
The Thing (all versions, including original)
The Blob (bw original great; remake ok)
Forbidden Planet
For a switch to plain horror, try a little film called Angel Heart. DiNiro is in it and it just might scare the bejeebers out of you.
