Buying more of a mutual fund?

I have $310 extra in my roth ira that is just sitting in nothing right now. I would like to purchase more of the fund I have currently (VDAIX)
I clicked to process and it said the commission fee was $45 dollars? It's through USAA.
I thought there was an initial fee to get in the fund, but to buy more, I didn't know there was a fee like that each time. They didn't charge to reinvest my dividend.

Get the frick away from USAA, and buy directly from Vanguard. Rollover. Jesus, you could do better with just about any other fund company.

How much would that (rollover) cost typically?
You know what they charge to add more to a mutual fund?

Dude, Nothing. If you have the fund already, it costs you nothing to add to it. Contact Vangaurd and let them know what's going on. They'll put you in contact with somebody who can get this taken care of.

Cool. I bet USAA will charge me to leave, it would be worth it though.

God only knows what type of hidden fees they've been charging the whole time you've invested with them. Blood suckers

They will, I believe it is about 20 to 40 dollars, somewhere around that.

That's unreasonable.
I'd recommend setting up an account with VG directly and avoid that if you can't get it straight.
I've never gone through USAA before, but this doesn't sound good.

Why aren't you considering VIG
For Christ's sake, stop with this. He asked about mutual funds, not ETFs. Are you an ETF salesman or something?

Aren't VDAIX and VIG essentially the same thing with VIG being more efficient, and therefore "better" than VDAIX if all things were equal?
From what I understand, ETFs are superior than their fund counterpart in almost every way, with the only argument I've seen against ETFs is that you can "trade too easily" in this may encourage people to time the market, get risky, etc.

It absolutely encourages risky behavior. The point of fund investing is to diversify and to buy and hold. And while I like ETF's for trading purposes or short term investing, they aren't part of my Roth or SEPP or any long term investments.

Ah ok, I figured I might have missed something else with them.
They do have the benefit of not having minimum investments to get started as well which is another advantage over funds, but I agree that some people won't be able to control themselves.

Opened an account with Vanguard directly and will transfer my roth there.
