Paging KR: Ruger SR1911

What are your thoughts? I think I remember you owning one. I know you're the board expert. I'm a big Ruger fan and definitely plan on getting a 1911 in the future. How does it stack up? I read a lot of reviews claiming "best bang for the buck".

For the price, I've never heard anything bad about them. Diesel and a few others have them. KR does not.

I am pretty sure Ruger is the cheapest higher grade 1911.
I'd most certainly say its the best bang for your buck.

For $699 they have more features than any other 1911 for that price. I don't have one but I will within the next year.
Great looking weapon with a lot of features for the money.

As slick said, I own one and am very happy with it. It's my only 1911 so I can't compare it too well, but I'm sure you would be happy with the purchase.

Good to know guys. I don't own a semi auto pistol so I figure a 1911 is a great way to start.

I'm thinking hard about buying one myself.

If you find one, get it. Academy had one left and 4 guys there to buy it when I got this one. I just spoke up sooner than them

Cabelas had a few last week.

It definitely is a great platform, although if you don't have a lot of experience with them I would limit them to range use only.
The reason I say that is the intricacies of the design itself. One must be familiar with and have the second nature ability to disengage the safety when drawing the weapon. I grew up with them so it's a no brainer to me.
A lot of people will say that the grip safety is an issue. That's absurd. I have shot tens of thousands of rounds through the 1911 platform and have never had a failure to fire due to a grip safety issue.

I don't CC and if I ever do, it won't be that gun so it's not an issue for me.

Unless I find a crazy good deal on a sig or comparable 1911, I'm probably going to buy a ruger 1911 for my birthday.

They make a commander size now
I love ruger handguns

So it sounds like you boys are able to find the Ruger? Buddy bought one at academy the other day, but I haven't seen one since and can't find another around town. Picked up the Remington 1911 at Academy today. Planning on getting the Ruger when I find it.

Where can I get one for $699?
Posted on 2/5/13 at 9:34 pm to DownshiftAndFloorIt
That's the one I will have
