It has little to do with pressure, velocity, etc.
You wouldn't want to cycle a round as long as a .500 S&W through a semi-auto.
Yes, there is the Automag that shot .44 Magnum, but they were known to never cycle correctly.
The slide would have to move back too far and the gun would not cycle correctly.
It's also not as much as revolvers being more reliable to shoot as much as being easier to fix a malfunction. If a double action revolver doesn't fire, simple pull the trigger and the cylinder rotates to the next round. If a semi doesn't fire, it's TRB - TAP, RACK, BANG!
