its not a big deal, peoples pride is hurt and i get that....financial aid is bad arse these days

If grades and ACT arent the issue could he use Tops or some other "academic" scholarship for the time he grey shirts?

Grey shirting at LSU is better than a full ride at North Carolina State or Kentucky.
No doubt Lawson will play at LSU and I hope he decides to stay firm in his committment.
I understand both points of view though.
