Most newer revolvers have a small locking mechanism by the hammer to disable it with a small tool.
Some other revolvers have it directly on the hammer.
It makes the action not as smooth and traditional so the pre-lock versions are more sought after.

They have also caused some of the airweights to not work when they were supposed to.
