Your Dream Offseason

I'll start with my D-Coordinator choice and at the top of my list is Romeo Crennel. His defenses are the only reason Kansas City was somewhat competitive. His defenses in NE back in the day speak for themselves.
Now for the draft. Here's my first 5 rounds:
1st: best of Mingo, Moore, Jones, Jordan, or Montgomery. Pretty open here. Whoever the FO thinks is the best pass rusher available.
2: assuming were not getting this. If so, I would probably say the highest rated OL prospect.
3: Kwaeme Gathears (would rather Jesse Williams here if available..doubtful) I agree with most on here that Hicks should excel at DE in this new scheme so this pick is to spell Bunkley. Gathers is humongous.
4: Tyrann Mathieu. We absolutely need a playmaker in the secondary. I know I'm in the minority but I think this is an absolute steal. He can switch between S and nickel with ease.
5: Damien Square - Jordan and Hicks can be your starters at DE and he can come off the bench. No idea how our current ends stack up so I'm assuming we grab at least one in the draft to better fit this scheme. Maybe a gem OT if not.
6-7 I have no idea.
Free agency. This is pretty hard for me to project. I would love to grab someone like Reed from Baltimore or Moore from Atlanta to solidify our S spots. I think we probably pick up a LB or two in free agency, someone who has more 34 experience.
Very, very wide open guess at a depth chart for defense come 2013:
Hicks --------- Bunkley------- Jordan
1strd pick/Wilson---------- Lofton----------Hawthorne----------Casillas/Vilma/Galette
Robinson-----------Jenkins-------- Harper-------Greer
A few offensive notes:
I don't think the offense will require any big personnel changes. Seeing if Henderson will return with the emergence of Morgan and how the log jam at RB will continue to work itself out is pretty intriguing. I don't think the o-line has as big of a problem as was made out to be at times. Injuries were pretty untimely most of the year.
Obviously my dream offseason heavily revolves around defense, as I think it should be. Payton is sending a pretty clear message with his immediate action upon return.
What's yours?

I think the O line could use some help in case of injury, but indeed the defense needs the work. I keep thinking "If we had just half the Dome Patrol with this offense.."
the thing with Mathieu, we didnt really get to see some years put in. Didnt get to see how people would scheme for him as much as id like to have seen and im not sure if he could produce high level in the NFL. I'd love to see him do it and would be happy for him.
Id like to see who we hire as the new coach, and as those pieces come together put some real thought into it.
But here is to a POSITIVE-Exciting offseason.

After all the thought I put into that, you reduce it to

I actually agree with most of what you said. I would like Crennel as a DC. I would actually like to see most of our picks in the draft to be on the defensive side of the ball. Especially a good pass rusher and some secondary/ O line help. I don't think we should go after Mathieu. I think he's a liability and needs to get as far away from Louisiana as possible. And finally try to go after any FA's that could help us on defense, however I don't know how much cap space we'll have to get any impact FA

1 ray lewis has the worst possible game for and nfl player in the SB
2 sign talib
3 trade for regis and Ngata
4 figure out who's the best DC and sign him
5 draft mingo and a top o-lineman
6 send kromer to an intervention
7 goodell, greg williams and the nfl get exposed as liars and are prosecuted by the feds. all victims are highly compensated.
8 the patriots implode and the birds start singing songs on the truth of spygate and that they have still been cheating.

I really like your free agent signings but I think Richard Seymour may be only plausible choice. I don't think the Texans will let Barwin get away and Paul Kruger may command more money than we can give, unless we cut a lot of fat( I have no problems with this).
Draft wise.
1. Jones/Mingo/Jordan - that is the order of preference. I'm fully aware that Jordan is the most likely to be there of the bunch.
2.*If this somehow gets back to us* best OT
3. Sean Porter
4. Tharold Simon - this is really just me wanting a tall cornerback, he's under 200 but he can add 5-10 more lbs. Seeing Richard Sherman (5th round pick, Johnny Patrick was picked ahead of him ) and Brandon Browner make me want to take a leap on a bigger cornerback.
5-7 DL and LB depth for our teams transition.

Victor Butler or Rob Jackson are options as free agent rush linebackers.
Neither are particularly great (Victor Butler's pretty solid though)but they'll both be affordable.
Connor Barwin would be best case but idk if we'll have the cap room.
Manny Lawson too. I forgot about him. That might be a name to watch.

Crennel or the 49ers d line coach hired as DC.
Goodell caught with male prostitute.
We switch to black helmets with gold fleur de lis.
Then the season starts. Warm front in New York next February.

A nightmare is a type of dream so I'm going to say 2012 was my dream offseason

As much as I'd like to keep Mathieu around in our secondary, this kid desperately needs to stay away from New Orleans. Even more so with that kinda change in his pocket.

1. Sign FA corner, not pro bowl caliber but more along the lines of 2009 when we signed Greer (Derek Cox?)
2. We currently do not have a NT for the new defensive scheme. Look for options via FA (Casey Hampton, not as an every down player though)
3. 1st round pick on Ezekiel Ansah(OLB), a great pass rush makes any secondary better, so even if a FA corner is not signed it upgrades current secondary a tad.
4. 2nd round I will chug beer, curse at Goodell through the TV and pray multiple teams reach for a QB
5. 3rd round trade up a few picks, grab Bacarri Rambo(FS). Drops this far because of legal problems, but goes to a team on a mission so I would hope the leaders keep an eye out. Also allows Jenkins to move back to nickel, which is an upgrade over Robinson/White/Mack.
6. 4th round you gotta help plug the hole. Kwame Geathers (Not a Georgia fan BTW).
7. 5th round go OT. Maybe Nixon out of Florida?
8. Next few rounds fill in the holes. What is the status of Nick Toon. Should we go WR? Depth at ILB? Look at 3-4 DE?

1. Crennel or Tomsula.
2. Clowney gets approval to enter NFL and the Saints trade up to get him.
3. The owners vote to fire Goofell. He admits to lying about the Saints.
4. I finally get an email from the Saints ticket office with my season tix.

The bold are the players I would worry about. How good could Hawthorne be as a MLB? Casillas and Vilma as stand up rush OLB's I am not a fan of at all to be honest.
I feel between what we currently have on the roster and what we will get in the draft through the first 3 rounds the DE/NT/OLB positions will be taken care of. We will need to address the 2nd MLB and Secondary positions in Free Agency.
Despite an improvement in our front 7 our Secondary still needs major retooling. Plain and simple is those guys aren't playmakers. We will need to bring in a Safety or Corner in Free Agency, or hopefully land a stud/diamond in the rough type in the later rounds of the draft.
