I am going to have my 300 blackout build finished this weekend. I am hoping to go on my bosses place in a couple of weeks.

FMJ doesn't work with hogs. Learned that several times.

If you want to collect meat though, any scoped semiauto or even bolt rifle that you are proficent with will work. Just hit em in the head.

This. Made the mistake of taking a normal shot two inches behind the shoulder using a .308 with winchester ballistic silvertip. Lost most of the meat in the two front shoulders due to bullet fragmentation. Good round for killing not a good round for meat hunting.

If you are going to kill hogs with an .556/.223 AR something other than fmj needs to be used if you dont take head shots. These rounds fly too fast and dont expend enough of their energy upon impact.

I think the best AR round for hunting hogs is probably .50 beowulf.

I have a lever action in .450 Marlin and it packs quite the wallop on them.

It is a .45-70 on steroids.

I have one, and it's the most effective round I've used. Never had hog take a single step after being shot -- just collapse where they stood.

My other "hog rifles" are .308 DPMS AR-10 and a regular 5.56 AR loaded with CorBon DPX loads.

All are lethal, but the Beowulf is deadly.
