You're totally missing the point.

The gmorgan-esque crusade against "name calling" is inherently absurd. It makes no sense at all when you think about it. I mean, what's a name? It's a label. What's a label? Well, words are labels. You see where I'm going here?

If you're going to campaign against "name calling," you might as well campaign against describing things. Logically, there is just nowhere to draw the line. The only thing you can fall back upon is the old "well you know it when you see it" line, but when it comes to politics, I really doubt anyone can.

I'm not here to knight for Rex. I haven't read too many of his posts lately, so I have no idea if he's trolling or not, but in the past I remember him as somebody who was genuinely pissed off at a lot of things, which is sort of the whole point of having the Political Talk board in the first place, no?

The PT board has indeed become unbearable, but not because of angry posters calling politicians names. Quite the opposite. It has become unbearable because of snarky cynical posters who troll the board with a bunch of canned one-line sarcastic responses because they somehow think they are above it all. Sarcasm grows weary if you use it too often.

The only way to take the PT board back is to rid it of the infestation of snarky hipster assholes. If it can just go back to the old way of being filled with good old fashioned rabid frothing-at-the-mouth fights over legitimate issues, then that would make it about 1000 times better than what it is now.

Agree that there's nothing practical to be done about the name-calling, but it definitely (IMO) cheapens the dialogue.

And snarkiness and people "being above it all" are among the least of the poliboard's problems.

This is all I would like to see. However it could be accomplished is fine by me. And, I agree with the one-line responses. But, I don't think people are being sarcastic. I think some of those guys/gals actually believe the crap they are spouting.

Huh? I mean, I think it's ridiculous and I think people get away with more stuff against Rex and other Dems than you could get away with against others on the board. I didn't think I was leading or part of a "crusade" against it, though.
