ATI video cards are better miners than NVidia cards, especially from a price per MHash/s perspective.
I've had my gaming rig mining off and on for the past month or so and I've made about 5 bucks. Mine has a 560Ti in it and I estimate I've been mining about 30% of the time since I started.
With an ATI 7970 you can probably triple that output.
eta: if it hadn't been for the bitcoin run over the last month, I'd have closer to $3.50 or so in bitcoins.
