Forgive my stupidity I really don't know shite about cars/trucks. Front end alignment the same as getting all four tires aligned?

I don't think they do all four tires, just the front two. I'm pretty sure a 4 corner alignment is a separate deal.
It's just to adjust everything to make your tires square again after you jack it up. It keeps them from wearing out in all kinds of fricked up ways and keeps your truck from diving off the road if you let go of the steering wheel.
