Foster switched to the 4-2-5 in 2003, if I'm not mistaken. Patterson has been running the 4-2-5 throughout his head coaching and DC career, going back to the late/mid-90s. He also runs it exclusively as opposed to many others who just use it as part of their overall package.
Also whenever a new defensive system employs the 4-2-5, I've often heard it referred to during in-game commentary just as I did--the defense made famous for its use by TCU under Patterson.
