Older gentleman told me the other day to hang the smaller hoop nets (which you have) mouth down from a branch or so. He said you don't even have to bait it. "Catfish think it is a log or something and swim up in it". Also, he said cheese is the best for catfish, and the cotton seed cake works best on scale fish.

That's what my dad said too, was to hang them straight down, but I thought he was crazy.
