Hoop net questions

I just picked up 3 18" hoop nets from my dad. I have never used them and have a few questions. I plan on getting the gear license and using them at Lake Fausse Point to try and catch some catfish.
What should I use for bait?
How deep should I set them?
And, does anyone have any other tips they are willing to share?

cottonseed cakes are good but be careful that no sacalait get in there.
Catfish will get after almost anything, but if you want to catch flatheads, then put them in a creek channel with no bait and just let them sit for at least two weeks. A month would be about optomal.
point the hole down current so trash doesnt get in there and good luck.

Pogey and other fish is more potent, but turkey necks last longer.
Nevermind, I was thinking for crabs for some reason.
