Of course it's impossible to know the future. But you're working from the "if they don't trade Perry for pennies on the dollars, they are going to stink". And that's just a Pens fan trying to sell the Ducks on the hopelessness of their situation. The Ducks are in great shape, as a franchise, even if Perry doesn't sign. Now, they have to actually build something, but having tons of cap room and a good farm system plus one of the best players in hockey is a nice place to start.
