There's no way they are moving Ribiero. They'll move Poti and Hamrlik first, and then either Johannson or Perrault. That's three to four guys they are almost certain to move first. They don't need the cap help.

In the Caps defense, they do have a miserable PDO, which suggest that at least part of their start is poor "puck luck". Simply put, they won't keep shooting 5% and have a team save percentage sub 90%. That would be the worst percentage team in NHL history.

Honestly, panic is always bad. That's why the Leafs always suck. They flit from plan to plan and panic at every ill omen. The Caps need to commit the year to Oates and just not panic. Sure, they might not make the playoffs, but better to make a short term mistake than make huge systemic change with longterm consequences. Ride out the storm.

But something has to be done about the special teams, which have been beyond horrid.

Ribeiro is an UFA. If your season is "over", it would make sense to trade a 33-year old with value. That being said I hope they don't trade him. He has been the only positive thing.

This isn't my original thought. Just passing along what the Caps beat reporter has been saying.
