if they are gonna make start making balk changes they need to look at the lefty move to 1st. they let them get away with too much. why do they get the advantage?
Righties can use the same advantage...just at third base. Problem is, not many people try to steal home off of a righty in the stretch.

During my years in the minors i saw it work plenty times. I doubt you played past jr high.

I've seen Holy Cross pull this off several times over the past two years, and not just against 3A competition.

Is it still legal when a man is on 3rd?

They are just overriding the special rule that makes this not be a balk. It would've been a balk to begin with if that rule wasn't in place.
And I saw Greg Maddux pull this off in one of the first games I ever watched. Not that there wasn't anything Maddux couldn't pull off

I've seen a good 3rd to 1st move be successful many times. It's just that my view of successful may be different than yours.
It worked once in little league

Do you think there is any way possible that a baserunner just may have gotten a step slower jump on a steal attempt because his first base coach reminded him, "Watch the 53 move"?
If it helps a catcher throw a runner out, it worked.

I'm curious, because of the rule change, if we are going to get a 1-5-4 caught stealing this year.

It's definitely in my boy's arsenal, and it has worked for his team. My favorite is the fake other-throw to second, then when the baserunner gets up and runs to third, he gets picked off.

A pitcher could still perform a pick-off to third by lifting his leg looking like he would be delivering it to the plate and if the baserunner took off too soon the infielders would yell "runner" and the pitcher could still turn and throw the ball to second.
So, this brings up my one question with regards to this. What if the runner on 1st breaks as you describe, and the pitcher stops his throw to third, but instead of continuing to 2nd, the runner heads back to first? Is the pitcher then unable to attempt a throw to first because he already faked to 3rd?
