We hear this a lot. That it is a QB league now and an offense driven league. But the numbers just don't jive with what seems like an obvious transition in the NFL. From a thread awhile back:

LINK:

Defense wins championships:

(total offense)/(total defense/scoring defense)

Great D:
_(9) / (5/_2) 2010 Green Bay
(22) / (1/_1) 2008 Steelers
(16) / (7/17) 2007 Giants
(15) / (4/_3) 2005 Steelers
(17) / (7/_1) 2003 Patriots
(24) / (1/_1) 2002 Buccaneers
(19) / (8/_6) 2001 Patriots
(16) / (2/_1) 2000 Ravens

More O than D:

_(8) / (27/25) 2011 Giants
_(1) / (25/20) 2009 Saints
_(3) / (21/23) 2006 Colts
_(7) / (_9/_3) 2004 Patriots <- just a great team on both sides of the ball

User Error:
(19) / (8/6) 2001 Patriots, how did they win it all? User error. They had a solid D.

Saints o made the story's that year but their defense was making a lot of turnovers something they have failed to do since.

Thats your problem there.

Use scoring defense, it's a much better indicator.
