it's not quite that cut and dried. we have strong tendencies to run out of certain formations and pass out of others. this enables the defense to gamble with more certainty. they load the box against the run and can blitz the qb against the pass. no defense knows exactly what play you're going to run with the exception of short yardage where lsu runs about 2 running plays. when lsu goes to the wildcat it is 99% certain the qb will run the ball and this has been true since RP. hell, perilloux threw a pass ONE TIME from the wildcat and there wasn't a defender anywhere around; it freaked the D out. it also, might have been an audible because we never saw it again. miles hates turnovers so he runs an uber safe set of plays esp with our qb's the last few years. he doesn't need trick plays, he needs to break tendencies. also, did you notice bama's formations against ND? many of them involved multiple options where the qb could hand off to more than one back or pass. also, the ol held their blocks long enough for adequate check downs and then dump it to the rb if necessary. lsu seems to line up in the I and hand it to the RB 7 yds in the backfield or toss sweep it, esp in short yardage situations.

it was from the SHOTGUN against VT in 2007. The D bit on the option fake and he hit doucet wide open.
