This is me as well. The book is better than the movie. That being said the 2nd and 3rd movies may be better than the books.

If you're going to read the books do yourself a favor. Read the first because it's great, read the second to continue the story. Pretend like the story is resolved and don't read the abortion of a 3rd book.
Seriously the 3rd book is excruciatingly bad to the point where I was almost rooting against Katniss. On the positive side it only take a few hours to read

These types of books are really bubble gum pop fiction in the same vein as harry potter, twilight, and the da vinci code books. When reading something like that I'm not expecting my mind to be blown, and I'm not expecting Hemmingway. I'm just looking to burn a few hours when I don't feel like thinking very hard.

All three books accomplished this goal for me. For what they are I think the movie and books are very good. You have to temper your expectations with this type of entertainment.

Never read the third. Never will. You're about the 10th person I've heard or read that from.
