The sugar bowl has been one of the biggest losers in the BCS era. Fan support has dwindled with the game moved from new years day as evidenced by the empty stadium last night. Last year with no SEC team also seemed to hurt the game.

Them and the Orange Bowl imo. The fact that the Sugar Bowl and Orange Bowl always seems to get mid major programs hurts them a lot.

this. And the matchups haven't been as good in the recent BCS years.

Georgia-Hawaii
Utah-Alabama
Florida-Cincinnati
Michigan-Virginia Tech

I went to the Alabama-Utah game and it had the poorest attendance of any Sugar Bowl I had ever been to. But the other ones I went to just had more interesting matchups:

Alabama-Miami 1990
Notre Dame-Florida 1992
Miami-Florida 2001
