Why would it take years? He could virtually have his pick of any midfielder in the world at United.
even teams like real, man city, and chelsea took a few years to build squads. man u has a lot of money, but they can't just make teams sell them midfielders

and a fantastic academy (something he won't have at City for a decade - a very important part of his success).
i think this is over-stated
how many starters at barca were plucked from their academy while pep was there? biscuits, thiago, and pedro without a doubt
xavi? no
iniesta? no
messi? no
puyol? no
abidal? no
alves, sanchez, pique, cesc, villa, mascherano, alba, and affelay were all purchased
so you have 1 consistent starter in biscuits and then pedro, and a 3rd stringer AM. those are theo nly guys promoted from their academy while he was in charge of barca. i think he can get by without one elsewhere

You are assuming Pep would carry his exact system from Spain to England, which he probably wouldn't. It doesn't have to immediately be a pure possession system.
i dunno. if his history at barca is any indicator, he wants to put his system in place early, and star power from the previous regime has no bearing on this. maybe he'll handle it differently

It's not too difficult if you have intelligent players and a manager who knows what he's doing.

If Pep wanted to just run his normal system, he would go coach Bayern. Great holding mid (Schweiny), defensive mid who is a very smart player and good passer (Javi Martinez) dynamic wingers (Ribery, Muller, Shaqiri, sometimes Robben), slick passer who's dangerous with both feet in attack (Kroos). That's not to mention Gustavo who is a midfield destroyer, Gomez who's a poache and, Mandzukic who is an underrated all-around striker. They also have a stacked academy to call upon.
The fact that he's looking to go to the EPL makes me think he wants to prove that he's dynamic.

Yeah, we (LFC) went from lump it up to Andy, to a "similar" system in one season... It can be done...
and done at a high level, as liverpool's example has also shown us

We've done fine with it... we just dont have the quality of players Man U have at their disposal already, not to mention the summer transfer window (with CL to offer) to build... it can be done.

i kind of think he's acting like a prima donna/rockstar, and man u makes the most sense, as it's the biggest club in the world. he can't exactly go to real

I hope you're joking. Our problems haven't been the system. We're running a legitimate possession system with mostly slightly above average players, a single scorer, the youngest squad in the league and an inexperienced manager. All done with a smidgeon of the resources United have.

22 La Masia graduates have debuted in the first team for Pep. I'm not even going to talk anymore about how important an academy is to him. It's the reason for his success.

which players were promoted to the first team while pep was the coach of barca OTHER than the 3 i listed (busquets, pedro, thiago)?
who am i missing?
who am i missing?

You're missing the point.
Posted on 12/30/12 at 4:27 pm to LSUSOBEAST1
it was a simple question. who am i missing? i'm no barca expert, so i'm sure some other guys made 1st team debuts
Posted on 12/30/12 at 4:47 pm to TFTC
fair enough
so basically 1 regular starter in busquets and 1 sometimes starter in pedro and a bunch of sub-level players

You can only start 10 outfield players... I guess I dont even know what the argument here is??
Barca and Pep rely heavily on La Masia players regardless of whether they broke into the first team under him or not... whether they've had to move on (see above) and eventually came back..

Is Xavi really a DLP? He seems to get pretty far forward.

so pep needs a system going forward that he didn't really use at Barca? that's your point?

The article kept referring to the manager/coach as the "trainer." Is that a Spanish thing?
