If we can make it back to .500

If the Saints make it back to .500 on this last game, I really wouldn't consider it a horrible season. Hell, I wont think it's a bad season either way. This season really shows the great players we have on this team. For our players to stick through to the end after all that has happened, it shows how much character they have, and how lucky we are to have them on our team.

This season will always have an asterisk next to it for me. To climb back to 8-8, after a horrendous start, shows the team never quit.
This can only be conveyed as positive as we march into next season with a solid draft, some FA pickups, and what should be one pissed off head coach.

The rest of the league needs to have an asterisk next to it.

It may pan out that 10-6 wouldn't have been enough either to make the playoffs. 11-5 would have been asking for too much given the conditions.
But I agree with the OP, it says a LOT about this team. I also like how the defense has actually improved as opposed to giving up - there is definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.

Why is that? You put your best players out on the field and won some games and also lost some. Pretty sure this season counts as much as any season...
You just sound like a baby who wants to take his ball and go home.
ETA: And before you start your collective excuse wagon of not having CSP or whatever, I don't care. CSP didn't drop passes or NOT cover anyone on D.
Don't be that guy that makes excuses. They're just like assholes, we all got em...

Dude if we had CSP we make the playoffs this year. You can't deny that bro.

Agreed, they shouldn't even give the winner of the super scrimmage on feb 3rd a trophy.

What are you whining about?
You sound like a rival fan who already lost, so all he has left is to rag on the other guys.
You know your team isn't going anywhere.

You really confuse me, DoubleDown. At times you're the only Falcon fan I'd call rational, and then there are times where you act like such a bitch. I act the same, but I don't do it on a rival team's forum.
And frick yes this season has an asterisk for the saints. Head coach suspended, personell suspended, major distractions no team ever had to go through.
I'm not saying the entire season gets an asterisk, but in my eyes, the Saints 2012 one does.

Considering all that's happened, an 8-8 season would be extremely gratifying.
The Saints will enter next season with the same mindset they did in 2009 after an injury riddled '08 (8-8) season.
And we all remember what happened in '09, right?

Are you fricking kidding me? Getting kinda cocky, especially on a Saints board. I'm going to laugh my arse off when your team chokes again. Please come back.
And to say that Payton wouldn't have made a difference is moronic. Had Vitt been the coach for the entire year I guarantee you they win 10-11 games. With Payton we sweep your team again. Get the frick out of here with that shite. You guys finally beat us, with Brees having the worst game of his career, yet were absolutely dominated the entire game. Was a fluke game. I'm ready for next season. Enjoy this while you can double, because it's going to be short lived.

Congrats!

I'm very proud of this team. If Vitt was here the first 4 weeks we would have been a playoff team. Shame...

I'm in step with this. Frankly, with the pitiful display of the replacement refs, I'll go with that.

I know it may sound lame, but I will consider the whole season a victory if we can make it back to .500.

Amen. This team never gave up, look at the Cardinals, Eagles, and Raiders and Jets, the Saints easily could've mailed it in and blamed the circumstances.

Looking forward to next season if SP returns. The offense should hopefully improve in regards to discipline(less TOs and penalties) and while not a defensive guy he's a good vocal leader.
