Is it surprising that they're offering the top players from around the country while trying to capitalize on being one of the most least deserving title shot participants in recent memory?
Simple fact of the matter is that this isn't 1992 and I'm not concerned about ND or their complete a-hole of a coach.

Last year a team made the title game that not did not win it's own division, let alone conference and beat a grand total of 3 FBS teams with a winning record, one of which was 7-5.
Sorry, but being the only major unbeaten playing a schedule with 10 BCS teams is not one of the least deserving.
