It's Christmas in Minnesota and some of my native born players are enjoying their lutefisk socials up here. Being from Spokane we didn't eat a bunch of that. Anyone else ever try this crap?

I have shied away as many don't speak fondly of it, and I don't know that I am confident enough to eat something I prepared with lye. I do suppose I would have to try it were someone to prepare it, though.

Yea - I understand that Lutefisk can permanently damage silver and should only be cooked, served, or consumed with stainless steel hardware. Sounds like a disaster.

Having only heard about this shite I would rather throw myself on a hand grenade to avoid it.

My family always ate this stuff and I couldn't stand it. Tried it a few times and thought it tasted how it looked. Gross!

Looks like it would be good if it was dipped in butter.

My wife is a native Minnesotan….her family always eat Lutefisk over Christmas…..interesting story, during an episode of Andrew Zimmerman’s Bizarre Foods he was profiling the bizarre foods of Minnesota. One of his segments he went to my wife’s hometown (population 288) and had lutefisk while sitting between my wife’s two great-great Aunts….
And yes I have tried Lutefisk…all the Tony’s and hot sauce in the world couldn’t help the taste of that dish..yikes!
The best description I can give of the dish is that it tastes like “warm fish Jell-O”

Didn't he say it had the consistency/texture of Vaseline ?

I actually learned a lot about propane and propane accessories from that show - no judgment here.

Maybe different people prepare Lutefisk different ways, but I wouldn’t describe it that way with the Lutefisk I have sampled in the past (prepared by my in-laws)

This is from Wikipedia:
"It is gelatinous in texture, and has an extremely strong, pungent odor."

I'm not eating anything that can damage metal.

I love me some Minnesota Hot Dishes but I too shy away from the Norselandic cuisines

My wife still refers to a "casserole" as a "hot dish" haha

I've tried it to say I tried it. I was in Bemidji fishing Cass Lake. Would not go out of my way for it but what the hell, they look at me cross eyed because I eat crawfish.
