fwiw I've been around this all my life, mostly from dog hunters (not saying that to piss you off downshift, its just the people who do it where I'm from). They won't touch a doe with a 10 ft pole, but if a cowhorn tries to slip out his arse is grass. Then these guys wonder why seeing a basket 8 is a miracle.
eta: I've never really pushed the issue, since they're all on private land anyway, but I think it stems from most of these guys growing up hunting when every doe was needed to breed, and seeing any deer was rare.
