I'm in the process of building my first AR. So far I have built a complete lower.
I had planned on buying a complete upper (minus BCG and CH) per the suggestions on this board.
If I buy a stripped upper and barrel separately will this be something I can handle?
I am fairly mechanically savvy but understand that there are more in depth issues that I am unfamiliar with, i.e. headspace and such.

quote:Probably not. I built my own lower but decided to play it safe on the upper/barrel and had a gunsmith do it. Didn't cost much either. Apparently it's one of those things that isn't hard with the tools and knowledge but is difficult without and could lead to some major problems if done incorrectly.

I'd suggest getting the stripped upper and barrel and getting a gunsmith to do it, if possible. Also never hurts to have a good gunsmith contact anyway.
