Manchester City, the English Premier League team owned by Abu Dhabi’s Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, is close to being awarded the Major League Soccer expansion franchise in Queens, New York, for a record $100 million, three people with direct knowledge of the talks said.
The team would be known as the New York City Football Club and has contacted former England national team captain David Beckham about a role, two of the people said. Manchester City will explore other leagues around the world, seeking a way to expand its brand, two of the people said.

Sounds cool to me. They are terrific owners with all the right intentions.

Don't see myself cheering for them, but honestly couldn't think of many owners I'd like to get involved with mls. I think their focus on youth academies could have a widespread impact on the sport in America. Buckle up boys soccer is fittin take off

I'll hate them on principle, but this can only mean good things for American soccer.

I'm always wary of big-money owners coming into a league like the MLS. After they win a few championships, which they will because they can attract the best players and management, they normally become bored. This is even more of a reality in the US because the US is not a soccer-first nation. Do the big owners get annoyed that they aren't getting the attention that they would if they had invested in another country?

Alright, let's get this thread back in order.
What kind of budget will these iron sheikhs be willing to work with?
Could we see a PSG-type meteoric rise in quality in one offseason once the club is firmly established, or are we more likely to see them go all in on just one guy like Eto'o ?
