It's over, move on, try to focus on throwing the ball to your own team instead of insuring that the Commish will continue to find ways to make Your team pay in the future.
It's called cutting off your nose to spite your face.
But then Drew is all about TEAM right?
Yeah. It will be Brees' comments on the situation that prevent us from getting a pick back...not the 9 months of legal challenges, the defamation suit by Vilma, etc.
Use common sense. If the players' behavior is a factor in the decision, the pick is already gone.

Wouldn't the best revenge be to let this die, attack next season with a passion, and let the ultimate frick you for Goodell be to have him hand you the Lombardi trophy?
Goodell is digging his own grave, not just with Bountygate, but with proposals for eliminating Kickoffs, Expanding Playoffs, 18 Game regular seasons, weekly Thursday night games, all which fly in the face of his professed Best Interest of the game." Let him commit suicide while we get back to molding a championship team

quote:Revenge? No one is looking for revenge here. These people are looking to set the story straight and expose a commisioner who threw a whole team under the bus to alevieate some of the damage that the league will incur from thousands of potential lawsuits. That's way more important and realistic than "revenge".
Wouldn't the best revenge be to let this die

I don't see why this and publicly slamming Gooddell have to be mutually exclusive.

At some point it just seems better to elevate above the noise, focus on what's really important.
What frustrates me and started this thread, is that with each successive salvo, Drew comes across not as a leader and a future HOFer, but as embittered and diminished
Not a popular opinion I get it, but, there it is.

I look at the same situation and see Brees as standing up for what's right in the face of tyranny (to be a little melodramatic about it). Maybe that's the black and gold glasses, but hey, I sees what I sees.

Fair enough. Thanks for not telling me to DIAF

Roger has a boner for the saints. Bending over and taking it up the rear would only encourage the SOB. I think you have to fight the SOB every step of the way.

Funny, people were saying the same thing about Vilma when he kept fighting the NFL.

What tangible benefit to the New Orleans Saints, today, in 2013 and beyond, comes from Drew Brees continually attacking Roger Goodell at every opportunity?
It wouldn't characterize it as at every opportunity. Brees has as much access to get anything he wants out there as much as he wants. I think he is not fearful of speaking what he thinks (usually responsive) and does so directly and concisely. The whole bountyfarce is still in play. As the both the team leader/captain and spokesperson I think his posture is appropriate. This furthers his stature in the locker room as a straight shooter and a guy that will back you up if you are right. When the case is closed then I am sure he will turn the page as well.

How long does this albatross hang around the collective neck of this organization before someone cuts the rope, tosses it away, and looks to the future.
My take is that it is a much larger albatross on the fans than the players. Many here might live enmeshed in the 24/7 sports media world. With that you can feel bombarded by the whole crappy thing. An attack on your organization can actually be a bonding factor for those inside. Many if not most of those guys are used up just trying to their job. They don't have time see what espn says and don't really care either. As above, the issue is still in play. So even if you aren't overloaded by it you still cannot fully go forward. Not until it is done with Vilma (no matter the end result) can the door be fully closed and move on.

Simply disagree here. Again, I think if stick your head deep enough in the 24/7 media you are much more prone to think that way. When I stand back and look at the picture from real world experience I see leadership stronger. Who in that locker room wouldn't follow him into battle now? And also again, his comments are much more for and as a player- a lot more than for media or fans. You can play the media game with lawyer double talk (I find Goodell totally justified. So now I vacate the penalties.) or you can shoot straight.

Food for thought. I am very much a victim/creature of 24/7 sports media sensory overload, which doesn't serve me or my ability to handle frustration like this nightmare of a football season very well. I appreciate your insight, perspective, and your level-headed response.
Thanks

I've been critical of Brees since his holdout and haven't cut him any slack this season, but I'm extremely pleased that he said what he said about Goodell.

I hope he keeps talking. He's saying what the fans want to say, and he has that responsibility as the face of the franchise IMO. He's sticking up for his team.
