Money is still important, I just mean there are some things that they don't really need money for a lot of things we do but they still need it. Also Ron getting made fun of for being poor is more of a class thing than anything else, Malfoy considers him lowly because his Wizarding family isn't known to be wealthy and high class

Also I found a better answer to the duplicating money issue. Do you remember Gamp's Law of Elemental Transfiguration? There are 5 things that you can not transfigure out of thin air. The only one directly stated is Food

The others are implied but they seem to be Money and Shelter, Clothing, Body Parts removed by dark magic, and outside Temperature

ETA: you also can't bring people back from the dead, at least not completely, and you can't create real love. But I guess those are more spiritual or intangible things rather than physical things to Transfigure, bc you can reanimate a dead body, but you can't bring back that person
