never seen a study, but you can get plenty of anecdotes from current or former rugby players on this board. Worst injury to head or face I ever saw while playing was a bloodied nose, and that was because the poor little back ran into the arm of a teammate.
There are plenty of fun collisions, but you play differently when you don't have a hard helmet and face mask to use as a weapon.
