Neon Trees are a really good rock and roll band

The style they play harkens back to a time when rock was fun. . .and not some self-important soul-searching whinefests.
Not my favorite band, but a nice diversion.

rock still is fun
The genre takes itself too seriously. They want to be "artists" more than they want to be "rockstars". They want to be Sammy Hagar, not Roth.
Been that way since the grunge era.
That's the reason why airy, fun rock bands see so much rapid commercial success.

Good luck with that one.

Exactly.
I can dig some serious tone to my music sometimes. But I also like the occasional diversion towards more fun songs that don't make me feel like cutting myself.

I like serious music, but the music snobs take it WAY too seriously. Some music is serious, some is fun. If someone likes it, it's good..at least to them..

They're excellent live. The lead singer has serious pipes.

Saw them open for Duran Duran
They stole the show. I was very impressed.
Their singer is a showman

I'm getting into this band. "Everybody Talks" and "Animal" are probably their most popular I would guess. I really enjoy "Weekend" as well. Has kind of a MJ style to it towards the end of the song that's cool.

Which is probably why one of my favorite albums of 2012 was Van Halen's "Different Kind of Truth". They didn't try to re-invent the wheel, they didn't try to blend in with current trends in music. The album could have very easily been released 30 years ago and fit in well during the DLR Van Halen run.
But don't get me wrong, I like some of the current rock, too. But sometimes I just want to crank it up and not feel introspective

Yeah, people call them "guilty pleasures" and I never really understood why. You shouldn't feel guilty for enjoying something.

If I like listening to snail farts, I don't give a shite what my buddies think. I'm just not that insecure about the choices that I make.

Yeah, but I think a lot of people will get past it.
When I was in HS I was conscious about what I listened to in public. That tends to change over time.

I think 1983 is my fav.
I saw them at Bonnaroo in 2011. They were amazing. One of the top five acts I saw that year at the festival.

That girl is hideous.
But that song is damn catchy.
I only started listening to Neon Trees because my 6 year old girl likes them.
The only band she likes other than One Direction.
