re: Poodles for hunting

OK, I'm here. I have 2 poodles, Claude (10) and Sophie (1). Back in Claude's prime he was fast as shite, and Sophie can jump higher than any dog I've seen.

I sent Sophie to the (reputedly) best hunting dog trainer in South LA. My grandpa said she was training hunting dogs back in his day too. We left her there for 2 months. Now, she only goes outside/inside when we give her permission; if we tell her to stay, then she wont move until we say so; we can throw an object and she won't fetch until we say "go" and she won't bring it back unless we signal. She's like a robot. She is just all around obedient as shite. Very smart girl. The trainer's husband is a big time hunter and told me to try and train her to get used to a gun so i could bring her with me. He said she would be an ideal hunting dog, and that he never thought he'd say that for a poodle. I really wish I had taken Claude to this woman when he was young.

I remember reading somewhere that poodles were one of the first hunting dogs. Don't know if it's true, but I could totally see it. They're smart, obedient, and great retrievers. If you keep their coats short (like I do mine) I don't see why it wouldn't work. Once Sophie's a bit older, I'd like to take her shooting to see if she could get used to shooting. If so, I'd try and take her out to the blind.
