Dude.
Any basic composition teacher will tell you that if you can convey your message in fewer words, then so much the better. Spouting off ten dollar words might sound impressive to some people, but when you can get your point across in a simpler manner and don't, it comes across as bloviating. Brevity is the soul of wit.

and i am approaching it from a journalistic standpoint, which Warner is obviously trying to do to ... it is a SPORTS column .. not a Harvard thesis .. know your fricking audience ..
