What is the precedent
The precedent? Not sure what you're asking.

Example?

Um, how 'bout 21-0 because you're the kinda guy who calls fullback dives on 3rd and 4 with all of the 4th quarter left and refuses to yank your obviously compromised retard quarterback.

that has "failed" after 8 years of success
Not what I'm getting at. It's too predictable. Again, the superior talent will garner winning seasons, but the predictability leads to critical losses and near losses to greatly inferior teams.

But hey, it's better than the 90's, right, so I should quit complaining and root for another team. Criticism and imagination will not be tolerated.

Winning seasons are great, but when you know nothing will come of it, it takes the spirit out of you. Normally, as I did in the 90's, I'd just focus on the exciting players despite the record or lack of accomplishment, but his system is so boring, I can't even do that.
