LSU already reached the pinnacle once, in 2007, lest you forget so soon.

So Saban can sneak into the back door twice in 2 years, but Miles is a dufus for doing it once?

Then I guess you forgot beating Tennessee with the backup QB and then rolling over Ohio State to win the title. Shame, that was the best part!

That's great and all, but by any serious metric the 2011 LSU football season was the greatest season in program history. Knocked off top-five Oregon, Arkansas and Alabama, beat top-25 West Virginia, first season we've ever played that involved beating Florida, Auburn, Alabama, Ole Miss and Arkansas in the same year. Had that team closed the deal it would have run through one of the toughest gauntlets in college football history. I know it's easy to get lost in the offensive ineptitude along the way and miss that perspective; I definitely agree that LSU, for all its accomplishments over the Miles era, has underachieved compared to its potential. But that doesn't change the reality of what I said, either.

How weren't they? 2009 maybe not, but 2008, after having to dismiss a star QB and start a bunch of freshmen that had no time to develop, not to mention starting (again, in 08, not so much 09) a lot of newer guys on defense?
Anyway, I noticed you (again) didn't answer about Russell, so I'm going to count him, consider your question answered, and leave it there. If you want a flashy offense then yeah, I'll grant you, Miles's teams are not the teams to be watching (at least not right now; might get a real OC in the near future, I dunno). But (a) there has been at least one "superstar" on the team, and (b) Miles has done a top-5 job in college football and thus deserves a top-5 salary, which he got in this extension + raise.
