You won't like the link to the 60s then.
I said wins, you are linking a ranking system using points awarded for different bowls, MNCs, etc.

Again. Who will it be? Or even who do the fans want?
You can start with a coach that can actually develop QB's. That is one of my top requirements, hence the desire for Patterson/Gundy.
Arkansas already had Les Miles' offensive philosophy with Houston Nutt. It worked, sometimes, to around the same winning percentage miles enjoyed at OSU. Miles' philosophy won't work at Arkansas because he wouldn't get the athletes in the trenches needed.

Here is where you get pissed off.
He would amount to Houston Nutt, here.
More consistent, probably not as low of lows, but average out basically the same.

So basically Arkansas fans are delusional and don't want a great headcoach?

Jesus Christ........I'm out on that note.
Les would pull more athletes from Texas, Arkansas, and Missouri in 2 years than you've gotten in 8.

Im not pissed, I stopped getting that way on message boards a long way back.
Look, whatever yall say about Miles Im certain Ive heard worse from LSU fans. I had one of my idiot friends telling me yesterday that hes not gonna win another SEC title. These are the same people that wanted him gone after the second game in 05, saying he was never going to amount to anything over here. All but stopping short of wishing we lose to be proven they were right.
And not to piss you off, but the reason why people dont like him is because he plays down to the likes of you year in and out.

Is that a fact?
Because reading this board LSU could get rid of him fast enough yesterday.

Can we end this thread? Les is staying at LSU now, who cares what Arkansas fans think anymore. It's done.

Don't use an internet message board as your best evidence.

Ok, you sound reasonable, not the typical rantard like the others who say they are leaving this thread.
Les works for LSU, works just fine, plenty of other coaches would work for LSU, just like there are other coaches who would suck and you have the 90s LSU.
Les would be OK at Arkansas, similar to how Nutt was, not Crowe/Ford bad but not Broyles/Hotz/Hatfield/Petrino good.
There are several programs across the country where Les could go and be successful just as there are several programs where he could go and fail, Arkansas fans feel as he would fail here. It has nothing to do with him being a good coach or not.
It is all about the fit, he isn't a good fit here.

would Saban be a good fit?

Probably not.
There isn't an abundance of defensive talent instate, I do not know if he likes to take offensive players and cross train them to the defensive side of the ball for instate recruits or spend the energy to recruit out of state.
You would see the Michigan State version Nick return.
The best fit for Arkansas:
Defensive Minded: Patterson: He is big on the cross training I'm referring to, this would help in recruiting since our best instate athletes all end up on the offensive side of the ball.
Offensive minded: Gundy: Another Petrino type basketball on grass type coach.

I hear you and Id prolly say the same thing if I was an Arky fan.
I think where he would be awesome for yall is that he has proven hes a top tier recruiter who can get top flight blue chippers out of the immediate recruiting area. He has had great success in east Texas, and that may change with AnM going SEC.

wow.
I live in the most insular area of the world. And even I don't think that insular about Arkansas
Here is my deal on this whole thing. The right fit thing is WAY overblown. Arky is a SEC school. With some success. Nick, Les, Boom, even Richt could go to Arky, recruit very well in state and OUT and win there. JMO
It's about bringing in talent from the states around you. I know many think LSU signs 22 out of 25 in state but that's just not the case. same with Nick. these are coaches that are known NATIONALLY already and can get almost any kid to atleast talk to them
just different views

We never really hit east Texas, more North Texas.
All our pipelines were destroyed when we left the SWC, coaches steered players away from us. aTm joining will help us get back into Texas again more than it will hurt us.
Instate has never really been a problem, Petrino was able to go into Oklahoma and beat out both instate schools for some players as well as go into Missouri and do the same.
For whatever reason we've had no luck in Mississippi since Broyles was the coach it seems like.
Patterson and Gundy would help us tremendously in recruiting Texas since both recruit our old recruiting grounds.

Just basing it off of what I've seen from Nick himself, he says he left the NFL because you couldn't outwork other teams to get ahead, so I'm going to have to assume that he worked just as hard (or harder) at Mstate as he did at LSU and Bama.
That leads me to believe that if it wasn't for the inherit advantages at each school he isn't heads and shoulders above the rest like we've seen he is more on an even plane, so no amount of work will over come others who are also work just as hard when you combine his approach to the game, his philosophy and style of play.
Of course if he was able to open the recruiting pipelines to Texas like we had from the 60s until we left for the SEC then he could make it work.

that's what Au said when they got rid of tubbs for chiz. fit is silly, your either a good coach or you are not.
tubbs succeeded at ole miss, Au, and he's now doing pretty good with texas tech.
jim tressel won at youngstown and ohio st.
bryan kelley cinn, notre dame
urban meyer bowling green, utah, florida, and ohio st.
saban kent st, mich st, lsu, and bama.
steve spurrier-duke, florida, u.s.c'e
miles did well and brough o.s.u. to a level they hadn't seen since jimmy johnson and is now doing well at lsu.
patrino, did well with louisville and left it in shambles and did the same with arkansas.
coaches are who they are. there isn't some special place that makes them a great coach.
dooley and chiz were never good coaches and performed that way at bigger jobs.

Mediocre at OSU Exceptional at LSU
This is what I mean by "fit".
Les has been exceptional at LSU, he would be mediocre at Arkansas.
This is based on results on the field.
Another area of "fit" is his personality, the way he conducts his press conferences wouldn't make him popular with a large portion of our fan base because of how he handles questions, his speaking skills reminds a lot of fans of Nutt.
Personally, I like how he always stands up for his players to the media and fans, same for Gundy at OSU.
