I'm going to be in Philadelphia Monday-Wednesday and looking for some suggestions on restaurants, bars, etc. Is Reading Terminal the food market type place? Going to Barbuzzo's one night for dinner. Staying at the Loew's downtown so something in that area. TIA.

jim's is a legit cheesesteak experience. got a nice mexican meal at el vez.
as for bars, tattooed mom was a pretty interesting one. they have old bumper cars and couches as seats.
just ask one of the people at the desk at the hotel. we asked this girl working there for recommendations and she had just moved to philly herself and gave us all types of ideas.

Reading Terminal is awesome. So many options there, I finally got to try Dinic's - pretty solid sandwich.
For brunch or lunch, check out Parc. It borders Rittenhouse Square - the french fries are amazing.
El Vez is another pretty cool place. It's an upper scale Mexican restaurant in Center City.
Frankford Hall is a great place to do some beer drinking. It's very similar to the Bulldog, except a much larger outdoor area. Though it is a little out of the way of Center City (it's in Fishtown).
The only bar I've been to downtown is Vango - pretty solid rooftop bar. Other than that, it's not really my style. More of a club than a bar inside.
My GF lives in Manayunk, so if you think you'll be in that area let me know and I can make some suggestions there.
Enjoy your trip, I'm jealous...I've really taken a liking to Philadelphia since my GF has moved there. It's got the big city feel without being quite as pretentious and busy as NYC...also pretty clean IMO.
ETA: If you want an upscale steak house check out Union Trust. My GF said it's awesome...though she judges restaurants mostly on atmosphere

Jim's is good, but across the street towards 3rd is Ishkabibble's...Also, legit!
Can't go wrong with Pat's or Geno's or the Reading Terminal Market.
Get you a 6-Pack of "Victory Golden Monkey" and get Monkey-fied!!!

Dinics in reading terminal. Pork sandwich is killer.

Not impressed with Tony Lukes

Second the Jim's recommendation. There was a huge line outside, so we figured it must be good. We waited for an hour, and it was worth every minute. Carmine's (?) in Reading Terminal wasn't a bad steak, either.
Stay away from the Amish bakery in Reading Terminal, unless you want to be on the fast track to diabetes. Some of the best baked goods I've ever had.

Flying Monkey in Reading Terminal has some great baked goods/sweets too.

Philly the right way........
Thanks for posting, added it to my favorites for next time I'm there.
Saw they mentioned Water Ice in that article...I completely forgot about that stuff. Holy crap it's amazing. I had Rita's swedish fish flavor . Sucks that they all close during the Winter...
Another great thing I've only seen in Philly is the Tomato Pie.

Great link, thanks. I'm definitely hitting up Reading Terminal. Dirty Franks and The P.O.P.E. sound like my kind of bars.

yeah when we got to jim's the line was outside and almost around the corner but it went quite swiftly. there was a group of about 50 mormons in front of us. as good as it was, it didn't come close to the chicken cheesesteak i got at some hole in the wall establishment at the philly airport.
