I would rather LSU pay Miles than roll the dice on someone else, the man wins. I also give him credit for the following, which many fans share the feeling watching some very uneven games:

quote:

That’s been the tone of this season, from that very first unblocked sack of Zach Mettenberger against North Texas to his buddy Tyler Wilson’s last collegiate pass that sailed high, wide and handsome over the corner of the end zone to allow the Tigers to pull yet another escape act with a 20-13 win.

“It’s aggravating to me,” Les Miles said. “But when you’re playing with as many young players as we play with now ... we have a very small number of upperclassmen.

“We have to win games like that.”

Given the suspensions and injuries going 10-2 and being in position to win @ UF and vs Bama isn't the end of the world like many believe, some might view it as overachieving.

I think that the 2012 year is incredibly tough for some people to swallow.

People thought that we would win 10 games last season given our offensive woes, and kept saying that 2012 was the year, even 2013; it was a nice bonus, obviously, to go 13-1 and win the SEC title. 1/9 was unfortunate.

Then, we start 2012 losing some serious playmakers on defense and have to break in a new QB; then we lose our OL, a good RB, and others throughout the season. So now, we go 10-2.

Would we be bitching about anything right now if the 2 seasons were reversed?

To us it is a hobby to follow LSU football. There is a financial component and LM is going to get what the market declares he is worth. That is a reality of the business of college football and he has the chest to take the praise and the blame.

I'm here to eat crow and admit I was on this board last night and today defending Les for not playing it this way. But I was wrong.

What I really want to know is how many people on this thread actually go out IRL and talk about "the free market" and then come on here and trash Miles and LSU for what just went down?

Coach is worth what the free market will pay him. SEC West is obviously an arms race. Big time. We'll see what Arky and Auburn come up with in terms of dollars.

The thing is, he had a contract for a bunch more years already, that he negotiated for. He was not just going to up and retire tomorrow. I am just as mad at AD for giving him another extension and raise because of another rumor of him being offered somewhere else. This is bullshite.

frick you Arkansas.

Only took 5 pages to blame this on Obama.

When in fact, this is your Republican "free market" at work.

And dude, you were on an earlier thread defending Miles re: OSU. Schizophrenic much?

Well, according to Les himself, it wasn't a rumor. He apparently had preliminary discussions with Jeff Long, someone he calls a friend, about the coaching vacancy. Then, as he did with Michigan, he said "no thanks" and told him a few names.

If he is a true Tiger, he suggested hiring Ellis Johnson, Curley Hallman or Gene Chizik.

totally agree. who the hell else is out there that can give LSU the stability that it has now and recruit as well as Les does? Because Saban sure as hell isn't coming back here. The last time they ran a decent coach off from LSU we had to live through almost 2 decades of terrible football save 5 or 6 years of what was considered good seasons back then when compared to the losing seasons we had, but those seasons wouldn't be considered good now.

You should have been getting use to it because America was changing long before Obama. You just failed to notice for other reasons I guess.

Did you just wake up or come in from Mars? Maybe you can't read or count. Les Miles is a great coach and perfect for LSU and the state of Louisiana. He'd make a great Cajun!

He's goofy and incoherent, but I have been consistent with saying he's a good coach. I never said we should fire him or push him out the door.

I'm saying that a raise was not appropriate here.

I don't really have a problem with LM getting a raise.

We haven't had a coach in a while that has won over 80% of his games.

We have more positive pub than at any time in LSU history. Les is on ESPN, and has his teams continually in the Championship discussion.

Heck, if Saban was still in the pros, Miles would be a god at LSU.

I know....he struggled against OM, Towson, blah, blah, blah.

I do think we need to hire an OC and we then will truly be fine.

And people say Les is a moron. I wish I was dumb enough to negotiate a new contract, a hefty raise and an extension.
