OP, Classic rock(60's-70's) defines a time that most of us younger peeps wish we could live it. It is music that our parents played when we were driving to school or on a vacation. Life was good in that era and that music ties directly to the good.
However, what is played on the radio is not a indication of the extreme depth the classic rock genre has.
Classic rock era gave birth to so many other aspects of the music we all have come to know and love today.

I actually despise the term "classic rock". Absolutely hate it. It's such a give up. It's like saying "I only like music that's already been codified by other people as being good."
I like rock n roll. Doesn't matter from when. I love Buddy Holly, the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, the Pixies, and Pavement. There is no classic rock. Just rock.
