Do we have another Dorsey on roster, or prospect the next couple years?

Our interior line has been less than stellar imo. Do we have any true DL studs that can pressure/sack a QB from the guard/tackle positions? We had a good string of guys with Dorsey, Kyle Williams, Booger, etc but we've dropped off since then.
Wondering if any current commits, or hopefuls for 2013/14 might fit the bill....

Brockers was a stud. You need to include him on that list. He didn't have the quick first move those other guys had, but he dominated the line of scrimmage. When comparing last year to this year, we are better (older) at every position, and our LBers are better, but we are not as good as a whole. The only difference is Brockers.
As far as current talent, who knows? Anthony Johnson is the man as far as pure talent goes, but he doesn't seem to have the motor. Maybe it'll come.

Based on looks alone I though Freak would absolutely dominate but he has fallen well short so far. Maybe next year will be his coming out party.
What about the class 2013 or 2014, who's the next great DL?

Remember, Brockers was in his 3rd year when he really came into his own (RS So).. Freak is still only in his second year with the program. He'll be a force next year.

Also, if you look at Covington DT Gerrard McDowell's (sp?) film, the man makes plays all over the field. He's a little on the light side at 250, but we could really make an animal out of him with an extra 30-40 lbs.

he's a true sophmore. He has 13 tackles for loss in his first two years (10 this year with 3 sacks). Dorsey had 6 total tfl in his first 2 years.

McDowell could absolutely be the next big thing. The kid is so raw from the lack of coaching he has had. Not that stars matter to me, but if McDowell can learn some technique and play with a little more urgency, he will be a high 4, no doubt.

I think he'll be a 4 regardless of technique, based off pure potential. Many times, some of the best prospects come from schools that don't provide the best coaching, and they still dominate based off strictly raw talent. But, I agree, with a little coaching and a redshirt year to bulk up, he could be a force.

Is Mcdowell committed? Does he have an offer?
thx

No offer yet (he's 2014). Per rivals, he currently holds an offer from Kansas State.
ETA: He's a camp offer IMO

With Downs leaving, Freak will shine. He has already shown he can get penetration.

With his qucikness and explosive firt step, you would have thought he would be the ideal 1 (3 Tech) gap DT

Freak has had a better year than Logan

I think Freak can be. He seemed to be our best interior DL this year.

I thought about this yesterday.. life is such a coincidence.
Was thinking of Dorsey at LSU and how much Freak has the potential (if anybody) to be the next Dorsey. Altho Dorsey's don't just grow on trees.. Freak can be that great.

100%
Brockers was a monster last year. I think we can all agree that it doesn't seem like LSU pressured the QB this year like they did last year. Brockers collapsed the middle time and time again, allowing Mathieu, Brooks, et al to get there before the QB could move. Remember though, Brokers was a DE when he first got to LSU. Is there anyone who is a current "DE" who has the potential to grow into the body type of a DL while still maintaining the DE pass rush ability?
