This kind of injury has an 8-16 week time for returning to action in many cases. It depends on the location within the ankle, how early it was reported, and how well the accomation works. The location is the biggest driver after the severity from what I can tell.

If they screw up the recovery, then they are stooges. It's essentially "rest."
At this point, I see no issue. They can't can't prevent injuries.
The process starts with the patient reporting pain. That happened, they reacted with the typical treatment (boot, rest).
Ish could be to blame some since too rapid an increase in certain kinds of training seems to be a cause.

The S&C guys need to be working on strengthening these guys' bases. We should not be seeing this many ankle tweeks already.

Too hard a work training regimen is a possible cause for the stress reaction. It's a balance, and it's possible that they aren't striking it.
Also, I may be blanking here, but were there ankle injuries to folks over the age of 20 so far this season?
