Bravo on the brilliant crawfish maneuver. This is awesomely ironic. You are using 2 examples, Florida 06, 08 and Bama 09, 11 but my examples are misleading? They are only misleading because they don't suit your anti-Miles agenda.
Actually, I think my anecdotes are more topical because they are more recent. As I noted, there are significant structural differences between modern CFB and the eras you cite. First and foremost, since the institution of the BCS, the top two teams actually play each other, whereas that wasn't the case in previous epochs. Titles were often decided by traidtional bowl match-ups and arbitrary hypothetical comparisons between teams that never faced each other. Additionally, the ascendency of the SEC is at its zenith. The combination of the BCS system and the outsize talent in the conference have combined to create optimal conditions for winning multiple NC's. I don't think it's a coincidence that both FL and Bama have done it within the last decade. There are other changes that impact the applicability of your analogies, which we can discuss another day.
My agenda isn't anti-Miles. It's pro-LSU. I've said before and I'll say again that Miles is a good, but not elite, coach.
However, the overall goal here should be to maximize LSU's titles. To ensure that in ten, twenty, forty years, there is no question that LSU is the dominant SEC program. This is not unrealistic. LSU has the resources to achieve this objective. So the question becomes how best to do it. Over the next five to ten years, will retaining Miles maximize LSU's championships, or will our championships be maximized by taking a sizable risk and hiring someone else? Or should we take a median approach and retain a "coach in waiting" a al JImbo Fisher?
Which path will maximize our number of national titles in the short and long term?

Next year looks to be ridiculous. Depending on how many defections to the pros we have...Next year could be our year.....

He STILL has yet to name a coach that could sustain this sort of success at LSU + bring it to the next level and become a "dynasty.".

What fortune 500 company are you ceo of? You are the #1 doner to LSU athletics right? You are the richest person in the world right? If not these, you are the #1 in the field of your employment right? You don't tolerate #2, so you are #1 RIGHT?
Great post, lukr! The truth is, these guys desperately WANT to be #1, have given up on trying, and so seek the thrill of it by following a football team. When that team is successful they get the vicarious thrill; when it's not successful they get bitterly angry because, in their vicarious world, it is them who failed.

This sounded fun and different, but I was unable to execute the last part.

Looking back on the season, 10-2 is pretty good considering some of the injuries we had, esp. on the o-line. But it's hard to dismiss how bad we looked in the last two games of the season, against inferior opponents who were just as tired and banged up as we were. The 2013 season will be a huge dogfight with Bama, A&M, LSU, Mississippi and Miss. St. beating the crap out of each other for the division crown. Bama has to be the favorite here.

OMFG. Really? Auburn, Colorado, N MexSt, etc., may be, but a highly-ranked team w/ loads of talent playing games that matter?
Just for fun- you say "almost"...so what is it that keeps you tuned in when your sense of aesthetic is offended so bad you're threatening to change the channel?

with massive injuries, suspensions,, and ridiculous youth across the board. Perspective. I like using that here and there. I know it's a sin here.
I wonder how many people had to google the definition of perspective
