Records are irrelevant. The Cotton wants to be a primetime game with high interest.
Bowls don't look at the standings of teams in conferences anymore, they look at whatis the best matchup to get the most publicity. Texas vs. aTm is that matchup especially this year, since aTm just gave Texas and the Big12 the finger and left for the SEC. The most appealing matchup for the Cotton is Texas vs aTm.
Assuming LSU wins, they will be in the BCS if Florida loses. If Florida wins, then expect LSU to be in the Capital One or the Chik-Fil-A. The Outback never takes SECw teams.
A LSU/Michigan Capital One Bowl would get press, so if LSU is out of the BCS, look for that matchup to happen.
