Player in NCAA FBS history with three games of at least 300 passing yards and 100 rushing yards in the same season -- Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel. Entering the 2012 season, this feat had been accomplished 39 times, and four players had done it twice, making Manziel the career leader in his freshman season.

We don't develop our QBs at LSU. It is never given the priority/attention that other programs give it. I think we have recruited very well in this area, but we don't measure up to other programs at all in this discipline.

so because we haven't had a kid like Manziel we don't develop our QBs?

No, because we have had a five star Russell Shepard, Jamarcus Russell (#1 pick), Matt Flynn, Rohan Davy. All of them had talent, but were usually reduced to 'game managers' in our style of offense. Don't get me wrong, I'll take a Nat. Championship with a game manager any day.
But it seems as though we don't take QB talent to the next level, and haven't for a couple of decasdes at least. That is our modus operandi

Also, the point of the post was to illustrate that Manziel accomplished a feat that has been done over 30 times in NCAA history.
We, however, are excited about 3 250+ yd games for the first time in a season in over 20 years. I like progress as much as any Tiger fan.
My hope is that this translates into an AVERAGE of 250 yds passing for 2013!

I get what you're saying, but I just want an efficient passing game that puts points on the board. 200 yds & 2 TDs/ game (on average) would be just fine given our offensive philosophy.
I have a want to see Mett put up JR 06 numbers (240 ypg/ 28TDs/ 8 ints), but whatever gets the crystal.

Does this shock anybody else as much is it does me? Hard to believe Rohan or Jamarcus didn't do this at least once.
Not a shock when you think about the fact that every coach since Archer leaned primarily on the running game to set up the pass and most of the time the running games were very good. The big passing games generally only came along if the Tigers got behind or involved in a shootout which were generally few and far between.

I'm actually really surprised Rohan didn't do this, considering he was QB one year when Josh Reed had like a million bazillion yards.

Ro just missed it at the end of 01. had 528, 318 and 245 in back to back SEC games.

There have been very few consistently good QB's at LSU.
Hodson was during my years at LSU. He was very good.

Mett's current OL is helping also.

Booty threw more completions to the other team than anyone.Plus there were two QB's on the bench (Craig Nall & Rohan Davey)that were twice as good as that....Daddy,buy me a starting QB job at LSU !

If Zach ever dials in on some of those deep over thrown passes, he will have 300+ yard games. I'm still waiting for the defense and offense to be on the same page and watch total domination.

never lost faith in Mett for a second I did.
I admit. However, he has shown the ability we all knew he had lately. He really is one of the most gifted QBs we have had in our history. Wish he could have played earlier. Next year should be special.
Read the sig quote, been there since Spring

This is why the ole miss game was quote un quote so close. If we got ahead early on then it would have been called classless. However if we are in a battle then..why of course we have to pass!
