L.S. was NOT a singer or band member. He was a shop teacher at the high school 3 members attended. Was a popular and unique character that had an impact on their lives. I heard them tell this on a TV show after the plane crash that killed 2 or 3 of them, including the lead singer. His brother took his place. I was surprised, I always thought he was the lead guitar player , not so. Was a teacher.

Before Leonard Skinner was revealed to be an actual person, I always assumed the name was based on the following from the song "Hello Muddah, hello Fadduh":

I went hiking with Joe Spivy
He developed poison ivy
You remember Leonard Skinner
He got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner.

He was a PE coach and the band hated him. He was clean cut and always made fun of and insulted their long hair ways
